Welcome to Accelerating Literacy Learning II – Fluency and Comprehension
This comprehensive 15-hour asynchronous course serves as the third installment in the ALL Ohio Literacy Learning Program, designed to advance teachers’ expertise in developing students’ reading fluency and language comprehension skills through the evidence-based Structured Literacy approach. Organized into four self-paced modules with supplementary readings and assignments, the course is grounded in Gough and Tumner’s Simple View of Reading model and Scarborough’s Reading Rope model, providing educators research-based frameworks for understanding reading development. Participants will learn the why, what, and how of word-level and text-level fluency, background knowledge, vocabulary, language structures, verbal reasoning, and literacy knowledge. Participants will also learn how to scaffold and support struggling learners as they develop these skills to become proficient readers.
